What do you consider a "forest"?

Trees are eligible for the ETS if they are on post-1989 land and meet the following criteria: minimum area of 1 hectare, minimum average width of 30 metres, and minimum canopy cover of 30% per hectare at maturity.

Can I harvest my trees?

No, Ekos Forever Forests projects are protected from harvesting. Just like the name suggests, the aim is to create permanent, forever forests.

When can I get carbon credits?

Once registered with the ETS, landowners can voluntarily claim credits every year between January and June for the previous year, known as a Voluntary Emissions Return.

How do you sell my credits?

Ekos Forever Forests markets premium New Zealand native carbon credits directly to emitters and offsetters, achieving a price premium for local, high-quality projects.

What happens if my forest is destroyed?

From 1 January 2023, the Crown provides Adverse Event Cover. If all or part of a registered post-1989 forest is cleared by a temporary adverse event such as a fire, the landowner can apply for an exemption from emissions liabilities until the affected area returns to its previous carbon stock level.
